I’m Alexandra Atkins, Ally, and I didn’t come to this work through a textbook, I came to it through my own experiences.
In my late thirties I started having symptoms I couldn’t explain and neither could my doctors. Fatigue, pain, anxiety, hair loss, insomnia, overwhelm, palpitations, reflux and general hormonal chaos - my body that felt like it was working against me. The answer I was offered repeatedly was medication. Suppress it, manage it, get on with it.
I chose a different path.
The turning point
I started working with a personal trainer and changed the way I was eating. The difference was profound, not just physically but in how I felt, how I functioned, how I understood what my body was actually asking for.
That experience changed everything. I trained as a personal trainer myself in my early forties because I wanted to give other women what had been given to me - a different way of looking at what their body needed.
When perimenopause hit
By forty five perimenopause arrived. I tried HRT and found it made things worse rather than better. What I came to understand was that my foundations weren’t in place. The nervous system, the gut, the liver - none of them were ready to receive hormonal support and so the support didn’t hold.
That realisation sent me deeper. I became a health coach. I started reading, researching, connecting the dots between my own experience and the science that explained it. I started writing, first to make sense of it for myself and eventually to share it with others.
What I know
I have known for a long time that medicating symptoms without addressing their cause isn’t healing, it’s just postponement. The body is communicating and when you learn to understand what it’s saying, everything changes.
Allyonics™ is the framework that came out of that understanding. Not from decades of clinical practice but from years of living it, questioning it and refusing to accept that how I felt was simply how it had to be.
That’s why I wrote the book and why I built this.
If any part of my story sounds familiar - the dismissed symptoms, the unhelpful appointments, the sense that there must be a better answer, you’re in the right place and I’m glad you found your way here.
